Joachim of Nazareth, the husband of St. Anne, was described as a rich and pious man, who regularly gave to the poor. After Joachim’s sacrifice was rejected due to divine displeasure, Joachim traveled to the desert to fast and do penance for 40 days. During this, an angel appeared to both Anne and Joachim and promised them a child. Joachim became the father of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
