The church has created a New Church Building Committee. A capital campaign this size, nearly $13M has not been executed in recent history. Because of the size and scope, the Parish has retained outside marketing and strategic planning counsel to help with the fund development and communications. The primary benefit is to raise funds to pay down the debt incurred to build the new church. Secondary benefit is a greater awareness of the Parish and all of the ministries and activities provided to the community.
While most capital campaigns of this site can cost up to 30% of the funds raised, Good Shepherd and NERUS Strategies LLC estimate the total cost to raise the funds for this project to be at 6.75% of the project cost. NERUS Strategies LLC is working on a fixed cost and not a percent of the funds raised.
On May 12, 2017, the pastor and parish finance counsel approved the preliminary plans for fund development and authorization to proceed with building St. Charles Borromeo Church.
Several aspects of the project are well underway including the architectural drawings, applying for city permits, building an overall project budget and consulting with the Diocese about financing.
Cost & Expenses of the Project
The total cost of the Church construction is estimated at just under $16,500,000. The parish has already raised $2 million of the goal, which would be used as a deposit to begin the project. A diocesan loan at the most favorable of rates is available to finance the remaining amount until the debt is retired.
What can we expect from St. Charles?
St. Charles is expected to be the new Sunday Worship site for the entire parish. Located at the corner of Caldwell and Akers (next to the current St. Charles Parish Hall building), the new church will feature the following:
35,000 square feet
3,000 seating capacity
Recessed baptismal font
Viewing from all sides of the altar
Side Chapels and indoor and outdoor shrines
What Happens Next?
While the building committee is working on their timetable, our fundraising and outreach activities focused on raising money for the new church to meet the expanded capacity and to accommodate growth over the next 100 years.
